The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41597-025-06140-z\">announcement article in <em>Nature<\/em><\/a> describes the labor-intensive process of creating the 14,769 road segments that constitute the dataset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dataset itself is <a href=\"https:\/\/zenodo.org\/records\/17122148\">available from Zenodo<\/a>. I also had ChatGPT <a href=\"https:\/\/a.openbible.info\/blog\/2025-11-itiner-e-roads.kmz\">turn it into a Google Earth KMZ<\/a> if you&#8217;d like to explore it in that application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compared to past datasets, it more-extensively fills out roads in the Roman province of Judea, which is relevant to much of the New Testament. Here, for example, is a possible route that Saul took between Jerusalem and Damascus for his &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts%209%253A3-8\">road to Damascus<\/a>&#8221; moment.
