And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, throwing out the wheat into the sea.
Then the mariners were afraid, and each cried out to his god. And they hurled the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone down into the inner part of the ship and had lain down and was fast asleep.
Since we were violently storm-tossed, they began the next day to jettison the cargo. And on the third day they threw the ship's tackle overboard with their own hands.
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
