He covers the face of the full moon and spreads over it his cloud.
Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
Thick clouds veil him, so that he does not see, and he walks on the vault of heaven.’
God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His splendor covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. His brightness was like the light; rays flashed from his hand; and there he veiled his power. Before him went pestilence, and plague followed at his heels.
Then Solomon said, “The Lord has said that he would dwell in thick darkness.
No one shall come up with you, and let no one be seen throughout all the mountain. Let no flocks or herds graze opposite that mountain.”
But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.” And the Lord said, “Behold, there is a place by me where you shall stand on the rock, and while my glory passes by I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back, but my face shall not be seen.”
The people stood far off, while Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.
who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
