You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him. And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.
And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.
Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
“If you meet your enemy's ox or his donkey going astray, you shall bring it back to him. If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying down under its burden, you shall refrain from leaving him with it; you shall rescue it with him.
But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.
Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.
And behold, a man came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?”
Do not say, “I will repay evil”; wait for the Lord, and he will deliver you.
So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.
For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.”
idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions,
for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer.
Then Absalom commanded his servants, “Mark when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon,’ then kill him. Do not fear; have I not commanded you? Be courageous and be valiant.”
But Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad, for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had violated his sister Tamar.
Outdoors the sword shall bereave, and indoors terror, for young man and woman alike, the nursing child with the man of gray hairs.
He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever.
