For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,
Much in every way. To begin with, the Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God.

As he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.
That you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles,
Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—
Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
And have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come,
But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

But I will tell you what is inscribed in the book of truth: there is none who contends by my side against these except Michael, your prince.
The wise men shall be put to shame; they shall be dismayed and taken; behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord, so what wisdom is in them?
The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings; they are given by one Shepherd.
He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and rules to Israel.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.
And Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord. He rose early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.
And he said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.” “And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me,
Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.’
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. Write therefore the things that you have seen, those that are and those that are to take place after this.
Saying, “Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”
Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.
The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,
Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. ...
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.
And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name's sake.
At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.
Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard.
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder,
For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
By which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
Whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
And “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
If indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.
Since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

If you put these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you have followed.
For it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.
To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I put you under oath before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.
Do not despise prophecies,
For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus.
Finally, then, brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more. And in this matter I give my judgment: this benefits you, who a year ago started not only to do this work but also to desire to do it.
But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God.
Who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God's word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.
If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are a command of the Lord.
Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you.
Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.
Does he not speak entirely for our sake? It was written for our sake, because the plowman should plow in hope and the thresher thresh in hope of sharing in the crop.
To the rest I say (I, not the Lord) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her.
Now as a concession, not a command, I say this.
Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.
But we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles,
For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
But has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith—
For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel,
They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises.
But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed,

And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
For he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, showing by the Scriptures that the Christ was Jesus.
Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, competent in the Scriptures.
And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures,
After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent a message to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, say it.”
To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
And the voice came to him again a second time, “What God has made clean, do not call common.”
Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.
Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this: “Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth.
Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. ...
When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. ...
“Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.
But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
So they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” This was to fulfill the Scripture which says, “They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” So the soldiers did these things,
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.
Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.
The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.
If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken—
But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.
I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.
And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,
They replied, “Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that no prophet arises from Galilee.”
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
