He has walled me about so that I cannot escape; he has made my chains heavy;
He has walled up my way, so that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness upon my paths.
Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in?
Therefore I will hedge up her way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, so that she cannot find her paths.
“My transgressions were bound into a yoke; by his hand they were fastened together; they were set upon my neck; he caused my strength to fail; the Lord gave me into the hands of those whom I cannot withstand.
Now, behold, I release you today from the chains on your hands. If it seems good to you to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will look after you well, but if it seems wrong to you to come with me to Babylon, do not come. So they took Jeremiah and cast him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king's son, which was in the court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down by ropes. And there was no water in the cistern, but only mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud.
You have caused my companions to shun me; you have made me a horror to them. I am shut in so that I cannot escape;
He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against our rulers who ruled us, by bringing upon us a great calamity. For under the whole heaven there has not been done anything like what has been done against Jerusalem.
Our pursuers are at our necks; we are weary; we are given no rest.
he has blocked my ways with blocks of stones; he has made my paths crooked.
