But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him. And the commanders of the Philistines said to him, “Send the man back, that he may return to the place to which you have assigned him. He shall not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For how could this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of the men here?
But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness. Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters. Let not the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me. Answer me, O Lord, for your steadfast love is good; according to your abundant mercy, turn to me.

When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall.
A Miktam of David. Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
Israel is swallowed up; already they are among the nations as a useless vessel.

To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Miktam of David, when he fled from Saul, in the cave. Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness!
Let them not say in their hearts, “Aha, our heart's desire!” Let them not say, “We have swallowed him up.”
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief; my soul and my body also.
You will make them as a blazing oven when you appear. The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath, and fire will consume them.

My God in his steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.
